Hi,
Over the next few months I’ll be working on Book 3 of the Kasey series, working title California Dreamin. In this book, Kasey heads out to a Business of Comedy seminar in Southern California. She’s looking forward to the sessions on comedy writing, performance, auditioning… how to get more bookings as a professional comic. It’s an expensive seminar and Kasey wants to learn as much as she possibly can. But the workshops grind to a halt when a body is discovered. And no one is laughing…
So, here’s the deal. Right now, all I have is a premise. I’m not sure where this story is going to go. Not sure who is going to get murdered, if anyone. I don’t have a killer in mind. So, the ending will probably be as much of a surprise to me as to you. But, here’s a sneak peek of Chapter One.
My plane touched down ten minutes late (head winds) and I anxiously checked the time on my phone. I absolutely HATE when people all start crowding into the aisles before the cabin door is even opened, but it’s as if passengers are springloaded. The minute they can unfasten their seatbelts, they are up and grabbing their gear out of the over head compartments, narrowly missing the heads of fellow passengers in a rush to get off the plane. And then they stand for three or more minutes while everything is secured.
Today I was one of those people. I have learned to sit as close to the front of the plane as I can. I was in Row 7, aisle and my laptop was already in my carryon and my carryon was in my hot little hands. There was a gust of air as the cabin door opened and the first class passengers started their slow file out. I had about twelve minutes to get to the baggage claim area, grab my checked bag, and find the shuttle to the hotel. And I had to pee. Hey, it’s a long flight from Florida.
Fortunately, John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California is small, only 22 gates spread out over three terminals. I wove past the slower moving people, following the signs for baggage claim, moving at a clip just below a run. I made it to baggage claim before my luggage which gave me time to hit the ladies’ room. #WINNING!
